ORDER ESTIMATOR PROCESSING SPECIALIST

Position Overview:

This is a newly created role at Chicago Tag and Label reporting to the Pricing Director.   This position will have various responsibilities targeted at estimating and processing orders into the system and analyzing the end results to how the job was budgeted.    The candidate must have a background in manufacturing/production operations, preferably in the print or paper converting industry.

Responsibilities and Duties

PURCHASING – 5% of time

  • Place raw material POs with vendors.
  • Outsource Ribbons

ESTIMATING – 70% of time

Estimating

  1. Receive inquiries from Customer Service or Sales, obtain detailed information regarding products and their applications, calculate estimated costs and prepare quotations and orders for printing and related services.
  2. Investigate pertinent details, such as quantities, delivery information, dimensions, configurations, paper stock characteristics, size and layout of copy, numbering or coding needs, stress conditions, environment in which products will be used, number of layers or two-sided printing, perforations, reinforcements and similar data to visualize needs, functions and production operations required.
  3. Independently query all pertinent departments and outside vendors to develop specifications and a plan of action to manufacture orders with appropriate profit margins and valid delivery schedules.
  4. Enter data into the computer system, using appropriate program for estimates, determine leads times and prepare and communicate quotations to Customer Service and/or Sales within established turnaround time.
  5. Analyze or evaluate factors required to manufacture products, including the selection of appropriate equipment, determine set up and press run time, material availability, artwork, plate and die requirements, anticipated waste, standard and special charges, and similar factors from knowledge of manufacturing process and on the basis of previous cost data.
  6. Analyze and recommend modifications and changes to estimates to reduce costs and improve profit margins, to resolve specific problems, attain desired results and prepare layouts or samples as required.
  7. Review completed estimates to verify that all steps and elements in the determined process have been addressed and they are complete and accurate.  
  8. Procure estimates for outsourced products following company policy. 

ORDER ENTRY – 20% of time

  • Process customer purchase orders in conjunction with internal order write-ups prepared by account personnel.
  • Verify accuracy of customer purchase orders against internal write-ups and CT&L item details.
  • Compare customer orders to approved quotations from the Estimating Department; investigate and resolve incomplete, inconsistent, or conflicting specifications.
  • Obtain or create revised quotations and make necessary order corrections.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers, Customer Service, or Sales regarding order changes, issues, or specification questions.
  • Prepare shop orders listing stock, ink, perforation, punching, and other production specifications.
  • Review die-cutting requirements, calculate costs, and determine appropriate die characteristics to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Order tooling as required and communicate specifications to approved vendors.
  • Prepare simple sketches or samples when necessary.
  • Estimate shipping dates and coordinate with Customer Service to track promised delivery dates.
  • Notify supervisors of upcoming delivery commitments or potential conflicts.
  • Work with the Pre-Press Department to create, revise, and update artwork for customer approval.
  • Assist the Estimating Department by preparing estimates as needed.
  • Verify new customer account numbers and notify Accounting of updates to maintain accurate customer records.
  • Create and maintain item records and ship-to addresses in the ERP system as required.
  • Use computers, calculators, rulers, and other standard office equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB COSTING – 5% of time

Working with the SVP of Operations and Pressroom Manager:

  • Monitor live production through the ASFDC system on all presses and take corrective action, as necessary, to eliminate/stop efficiencies.
  • Enforce proper use of automatic and manual data collections systems for costing.
  • Generate costing reports from these systems for issues, identification, and resolution of over budget productivity issues.
  • Set up Production codes for the ASFDC system.
  • Ensure that, as the company grows, manufacturing capabilities meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements.   This includes identifying issues within Production and providing suggestions for increase efficiencies to pressroom manager and ASVP of Operations.
  • Work with Pricing Director on costing analytics for completed job orders and Oder Entry/Estimating on quotations.
  • Working with Pricing Direct and IT Director, provide suggestions as to what additions, changes or deletions should occur within the ASFDC system.
  • Review variances to how job ran to quoted.
  • Work with IT Manager to develop custom reports to meet company needs (i.e., costing reports, etc.).   Determine what should be included in the data so information is accurate and appropriate.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minium 5 years’ experience in manufacturing/production operations – preferably in a paper converting or print-manufacturing environment.
  • Associates degree or equivalent college course work
  • Experience working with or running Manufacturing equipment.   Preferred experience with Flexographic Printing Presses, High Speed Operation/Multiple Webs/Specialty Converting, Digital Imaging, Adhesive Coating, In-Line Finishing, Off-Line Finishing and Paper Slitters.
  • Strong computer and reporting building skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to learn ERP system(s), – Radius a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong Math Skills

Position Summary:

The maintenance apprentice roll will work under senior technicians to learn electrical, mechanical, and building repair trades.   Responsibilities include assisting with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, using hand tools and janitorial backup.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of equipment
    • Clean and lubricate the portable press accessories, such as fan folders, sheeter tables, Evtecs, unwinds, rewinders, and gluing equipment.
    • Inspect equipment for worn belts, gears, or bearings and report the problem to the maintenance manager.
    • Clean press line shafts, check for loose screws, and replace oil-absorbing material.
    • Assist with HVAC filter replacements and repairs.
    • Assist with cleaning the humidification heads in production room.
    • Install auxiliary equipment on presses including leveling and tramming for straightness.
    • Weekly battery maintenance on forklifts/reach truck.
    • Change sprinkler heads when needed.
  • Facility Maintenance
    • Shoveling snow and dirt for irrigation repairs.
    • Changing light bulbs and ballast
    • Using floor scrubber/Zamboni, clean floors in office, bathroom, and warehouse when needed.
    • Repair/fix items in office (i.e. overhead bins, bathroom soap dispensers).
    • Repair of any issues in bathrooms, leaky sinks, toilets etc.
  • Janitorial
  • Back up to facilities cleaner when out on vacation.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Monthly inspection of fire extinguishers.
    • Ensure that all OSHA and facility safety regulations, including proper handling of hazardous solvents and inks, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in mechanics or in the process of acquiring.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work with tools/mechanical.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a safe and organized manner.
  • Ability to drive forklift/reach truck.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, follow verbal instructions, and log work tasks.
  • Willingness to learn machining and maintenance duties.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work cooperatively with others.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 50 lbs. several times daily and to work standing for eight hours per day

Employee Type/Schedule:

Full-time Hourly 40 hours; M – F 8 – 4:30 (Saturdays during peak season).

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Sales Executive to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in B2B sales within the print and label industry, with a proven ability to identify and close new business opportunities. You will be responsible for managing the entire sales process, from prospecting and lead generation to closing deals and maintaining long-term customer relationships. This role requires a dynamic individual who excels in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about providing exceptional service and value to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • New Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the custom print and label sector. Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified leads.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Establish and nurture strong relationships with key decision-makers at target companies. Act as the primary point of contact for customers, ensuring their needs are met with tailored solutions.
  • Sales Process Management: Manage the complete sales cycle, including prospecting, qualifying, presenting, negotiating, and closing deals. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless order fulfillment.
  • Product Expertise: Develop a deep understanding of our product offerings and capabilities. Present our solutions in a way that addresses customer pain points and provides measurable value.
  • Performance Tracking: Meet and exceed sales targets and KPIs. Regularly report on sales activity, pipeline status, and market developments to the Sales Manager.
  • Travel: Participate in client meetings, industry trade shows, and other events as needed to build relationships and generate new business opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of B2B sales experience, preferably in the custom print and label industry or a related field.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Proficient in CRM software (Preferably Hubspot) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attributes: Highly motivated, organized, self-starter with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel as required (locally and nationally) to meet with clients and attend industry events.

What We Offer:

  • The compensation is a base plus commission. 
    • Base pay will range from $70,000 – $80,000 which will be based on sales and industry experience.
    • Commission levels align with our fiscal year and are margin dollars once hurdle has been achieved (uncapped)

Job Summary

The Press Helper is an entry-level production role where you work alongside a Press Operator.  As a Press Helper, will do any work needed to reduce the amount of non-productive work that Press Operators would otherwise need to do in order to get their presses running.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Press operator with the setup of a press run
    • Getting any parts or accessories as needed
    • Material preparation such as ink, adhesive, paper
  • Inspect product as it comes off the press, at maximum press speeds.
  • Package product comes off press, at maximum press speeds.
  • Assist with Press Maintenance while jobs are running such as helping clearing jams.
  • Maintain the ink pumps, hoses, ink trays, and chamber blade units while jobs are running.
  • Clean and work with the portable press accessories, such as fan folders, sheeter tables, and turret rewinders.
  • Assist the press operator with cleaning up at end of shift (if press is not going to run into next shift)
    • Wash ink pumps, ink trays, and chamber blade units, and place them on the appropriate storage carts.
  • General pressroom housekeeping; cleaning up spills, sweeping, trash
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One to two months’ experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Lifting boxes which may weigh up to 25 lbs. occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to:
    • Learn press operations
    • Work with dirty press parts and ink
  • Ability to:
    • Use hands to work with tools / mechanical inclination
    • Basic Math
    • Read and understand a job folder
    • Read a ruler (preferred)

Job Summary

As a Flexo press operator, you will play an integral part in the production of Chicago Tag and Label’s products.   In this position you will be responsible for the set up and operation of various Flexo presses and auxiliary equipment to produce single, multiple color and multiple part tags, labels and forms in accordance with the printing specifications and customer requirements / expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Press Setup & Make-Ready
    • Work from shop orders to get specifications and instructions.
    • Check and verify paper stock provided to ensure conformance to specifications, mount and web paper through various operating positions.
    • Start press guides and synchronize timing for multiple part and layer matching and adhesion.
    • Adjust speed, ink flow, tension, pressure, adhesive flow, suction and similar controls
    • Mount, place and prepare, align and adjust printing plates for proper impression and register
    • Mount, place and prepare, align and adjust printing plates for proper impression and register.
  • Ink Management
    • Match and mix inks to exact color specifications, adjusting viscosity and flow rates for optimal coverage
  • Production
    • Remove printed material, place in containers or cartons, load and move to designate area.
    • Train new operators and apprentice/helpers
    • Clean press and press are, lubricate press periodically, dissemble, clean rollers and change ink at end of press run as required.
  • Quality Control
    • Make initial impression, check centering, inking and print accuracy, make final adjustments to press and obtain approval for production run.
    • Continuously monitor running operations to ensure accurate registration, color consistency, and sharpness.
    • Check work and adjust equipment during run to maintain quality standards.
    • Bring quality issues to the attention of the quality control team.
  • Reporting & Administration
    • Accurately record production time, material usage, and waste data in manufacturing and computer software systems.
    • Achieve or exceed budgeted set-up time and press speed.
    • Notify supervisor of unusual equipment or operating problems
    • Accurately enter codes in the Data Collection Unit.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Adhere to all OSHA and facility safety regulations, including proper handing of hazardous solvents and inks, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Keep work area in clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Two years’ minimum experience, particularly with Flexo Presses.
  • Ability to use hand tools, ruler, fixtures and gauges and has mechanical inclination.
  • Excellent math and measure accurately to 1/16th of an inch using a ruler or tape measure.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to differentiate colors.
  • Accurately enter codes in the data collection unit
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. several times daily and to work standing for eight hours per day
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work cooperatively with others.
