Going Green

Going GreenAs part of our commitment to social and environmental responsibility and proper forest management, Chicago Tag & Label has achieved Chain-of-Custody Certification from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Certification allows professionals and end users to know they are doing the right thing, and taking business away from other companies that may still be supporting illegal, unverified logging activities. The FSC and SFI systems are working to shift the paper market in order to eliminate habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous people and violence against people and wildlife that often accompanies logging.

"Chain-of-custody certification means we will be able to service the increasing market demand for forest products from responsible sources, which is good for our business and good for our forests," said Executive Vice President, Chris Valenti.

By using FSC or SFI certified paper, we will be able to print the FSC or SFI Chain-of-Custody logo on your finished products. This will tell your final users that you are being environmentally responsible in the paper products that you use.

FSC Certification

FSC CertificationThe Forest Stewardship Council has determined that a responsible forestry management means a new tree is grown for every tree harvested. And it is a forest in which all of the processes of planting, cultivation, harvesting and transportation are done with as little adverse impact to the environment as possible.

The presence of the FSC Chain-of-Custody logo on a printed product ensures that the materials used to produce it were sourced responsibly. This means the paper used in your final product has flowed through the FSC "Chain-of-Custody" from an FSC-certified paper manufacturer to an FSC-Certified printer, such as Chicago Tag & Label.

SFI Certification

SFI CertificationWith more than 160 million acres certified across North America, the non-profit SFI sustainable forestry certification program is one of the largest in the world, with a standard based on principles and measures that promote sound forest management including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk and forests with exceptional conservation value. Through SFI chain-of-custody certification, companies must have a tracking system in place so they can tell customers the amount of certified, uncertified and recycled content in the forest products they buy, use or sell.

"At a time when just 10 percent of the world's forests are independently certified, Chicago Tag & Label joins a growing community of companies, landowners, and social and environmental organizations who have demonstrated their environmental commitment and leadership by achieving SFI certification," said SFI Inc. President and CEO Kathy Abusow.
